I recommend Gmail. It offers a great deal of space. In addition, it has a really cool format in which to view your emails. It keeps emails of the same subject stacked together rather than each email that comes in on its own line ( I hope that just made sense). I do not have any trouble with spam in Gmail.
I do not like Hotmail. It allows way too much spam.

Another feature I like is that it groups the email threads together so you can see an entire thread on page.
